Summary:
This is a
traditional tale. Senor Calavera comes
to Grandma Beetle’s door. He is ready to
take her to a next life. After helping her count in English and Spanish, as she
makes her birthday preparation he changes his mind. This is a great book for
all ages with rich illustrations with English and Spanish counting presented in
a fun way. This is a great book about family life and celebrations.
Classroom
Ideas: I would use this book to address
multicultural issues while helping to teach counting and numbers in Spanish and
English. Students will use picture
clues to help with understanding counting and cardinality. Students develop
number and operations through concepts of adding one more. Students will know
number names and the counting sequence through listening to the story and then
using props to retell the story.
I have never heard of this book and it sounds like a great traditional book to read to a class. I like that it counts in english and Spanish, gives other english language students an opportunity to count in their native language or just to count in a different language. Not only are they learning to count they are learning Spanish! This can be a great book to incorporate in all classes, the pictures allows students to see themselves. I really like what you said its addressing, multicultural issues is something that should be brought up and talked about! great discussion book.
