By: Paul Giganti, Jr.
Recommended Age/Grade - 2-5

CCSSM Standards for Mathematical Practice:
CCSS.MATH.PRACTICE.MP1 Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
CCSS.MATH.PRACTICE.MP4 Model with mathematics.

Book SummaryThe book can be used for students, adults, and children of all ages. The younger children can count aloud and point to the objects on each bright and colorful page, while the older students and adults can use multiplications or higher level problem solving to receive their answer.

Opinion
I believe this book does bring forth an excellent way for students and children to interact within in the book and the questions being asked. Whether they are counting along or aloud, they are able to visibly see the answer that they are trying to come up with. The older students can use multiplication skills and practice to receive an answer, and use their knowledge in a fast and easier way.

Student Activities
This book can be used for counting as well as an art lesson. The students can use the illustration of the orange slices and the seeds to understand earlier knowledge of multiplication. This can also be used later on when understanding fractions. Placing the 8 slices together to make 1 whole orange. and the seeds can be helpful in this case as well.

  1. Hi Nicole,

I think this is a great way to introduce fractions to the students, as well as engaging them with the diverse ways of understanding the topic of study. Fractions can be difficult to understand and comprehend, so a book that can be incorporated to do so is a great way for students to feel comfortable and intrigued to learn about them.
